Location The honey-comb-like Phugtal monastery is perched at the opening of a huge cave on a cliff above the Tsarap river in Zanskar region. Visitors have to undertake an exciting and arduous trek of two or three days to reach this isolated monastery. Foundation The foundation of Phugtal Gompa dates back to 12th century AD.
